up converter

Post by nikvek » Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:12 pm

I have a RTL2832u R820t2 TCXO+BAIST+HF Do I need a Up converter with it to receive HF ie.. 7.200Mhz or 14.220Mhz
I am Connected to an Antenna for these Freqs and I can hear local Stations on FM in my area and also on VHF 145.300Mhz,.
If I read the Info right it does not need a a converter to receive. The Same Antenna Works Fine when hooked to my Ham Radio. I'm using SDR# on win109. HF Is there a setting I need to change to get HF.? please help

The V3 doesn't need an upconverter, you can enable direct sampling mode. Instructions at www.rtl-sdr.com/V3

Improved performance can be obtained by using an upconverter, but if you're spending that money, probably better to save a little more for a higher end SDR like a SDRplay or Airspy.
