Updated Meteor M-N2-2 Tutorial and Decoder Now Available

Thank you to Happysat for submitting the following information about the updated LRPT decoder for Meteor M-N2-2. He has also provided a link to his very useful Meteor Satellite reception tutorial.

Today the official LRPT-Decoder V42 ready for release :)

Before we did use a older internal debug version from 2014, because this one was still in development.

This version 42 of LRPTDecoder will work with both Meteor M-N2 and Meteor M-N2-2.

Example ini configuration files for other modes are attached in the archive.

has anyone got a link for the offline decoder that works? seems that every link is dead

One thing I’d like to see with MeteorGIS is the ability to ftp your decoded pictures to your own web site, just like Wxtoimg has built in

Andrii Segeniuk

The same question. Doesnt work((((

Happysat:
So has the Meteor plugin been updated? I followed your links but when I downloaded the meteor demodulator v22 the dll file still has the same modified date stamp (2016-04-03). That makes me think nothing has changed. When I go to the plugin homesite (http://rtl-sdr.ru/) it only shows the v2.1 version of the plugin. What am I missing? The bottom line is, has anyone discovered why the plugin works on some installations and not on others? Has this been addressed yet? If not then I guess I’m still left looking for another solution for decoding the Meteor M2 sats. Thanks for keeping us up-dated though.

Meteor M-N2-2 Telemetry Unpacker:

Only for Meteor M-N2-2!
N-2-2 has a new different way of processing Telemetry on PID70 e.g. info from Glonass and its position.

Program for unpacking telemetry from APID70 for testing.
TLE can be used in Orbitron and with geo-referencing.

Please read M22Telemetry.txt inside the package for more info!

SDRHobbist:
I too having issue with the exact issue you are. No version of sdrsharp seems to work on my W7 PC (Net4.6). The magic line is clearly in the plugins.xml but doesn’t show up in sdrsharp when its launched. when you shutdown SDR# is when you get the debug msg
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
I’ve seen this brought up before but no one wants to address it or has no idea why this happens on some installs and not on others. An older version of SDR# (1337) works with the QPSK plugin but not the OQPSK version of the plugin. Did you ever get it working for Meteor MN2-2?

sdrhobbist

no, i haven’t 🙁
But it is a relief that i’m not alone with this issue.
The solution i found is not very practical. I record the samples of the signal from N22 using the if recorder plugin, then boot into linux where i demodulate the signal using the meteor_demod program. On the development branch of this program the author (dbdexter-dev) added the possibility to demodulate the oqpsk signal. You can found the source at https://github.com/dbdexter-dev/meteor_demod/tree/devel. It is easy to compile and run. It outputs an “.s” file that can then be read by the latest version of the LRPT_Decoder, posted here by happysat.
But i still wonder why the plugin doesn’t work for me , I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the .net framework, also tried to reinstall all the visuallc++ runtimes and had no success 🙁

Happysat

Mike, SDRHobbist, Im running SDRSharp and the demod plugin in Windows 7 with .net 4.7.2 installed.
Maybe it does not run due .net 4.6 installed, i have no idea if Vasli did change the .net requirements and or VB for his plugin.

But i guess it does not hurt to install VB Redist 2013/2017 x86/x64 for some plugins this is needed.

On Win10 it should run out of the box..

Mike

Happysat:
Thanks for the reply. I did check what ,et I have installed and I have 4.5, 4.6 and 4.8. I thought I had installed 4.7.2. I even went to the MS site to download it. I just reinstalled it and rebooted and when I examine the Program & Features it still doesn’t show 4.7.2. I already have the 2013/2015 as well as the 2017 redistributable installed. I can probably uninstall 4.6 to see if it gets it to run. I’ve read that different programs need different version of .net to work so if I uninstall it there’s no telling what it will cause to stop working. I could reinstall if I need the other program more. Its a shame we can’t get all programs to work with what ever the latest release of the supporting resource that is out. I will post back after uninstalling the .net 4.6 resource.
Thanks again, Happysat.

Happysat:
OK, I uninstalled the .net 4.6 resources and rebooted. Still no 4.7.2. I checked the .net wiki article and it looks like each release DOES indeed replace the previous version since .net 4.x. The .net 4.8 is supposed to replace the 40 – 4.7 releases of the resource. So, I probably don’t see 4.7.2 because the .net manager sees 4.8 installed which is newer. If it works with 4.7.2 it should work with 4.8 unless something in 4.8 screwed up what the author was relying on in 4.7.2. who knows. Anyway. I guess I will have to do what SDRhobbist is doing and record the IQ data an manually demodulate it until I can get a .s file to run through LRPT for MeteorMN2-2. I also saw a guy on Youtube that does it manually also. Thanks for trying to help Happysat and you to, SDRHobbist.

I want to thank you too for the reply.
I have all the redistributables installed from 2005 to 2017, both x86 and x64. Also tried with .net 4.6, 4.72 and 4.8.
My guess is that the plugin is conflicting with something but i can’t figure it out with what. All the other plugins from rtl-sdr.ru work, this is the single one that doesn’t.
I have more computers at work with the exact same setup, and there the program works, which is even more frustrating, lol. The problem is that at work I don’t have the possibility to install an antenna for the live reception.
Anyway let’s hope that it will be fixed in future versions of the plugin.

LXT118

Why can’t I find the driver section in Setup.cfg? I see DDEdriver under system but that is the closest I can get to a driver in the setup script.

tyrion

Seems meteor m2 is off over Europe now and yesterday or is it just me?

Swarl3s

The satellite was tumbling for the last few days, either the antenna is pointing away from earth, or they switched it off completely. N2-2 is offline again too, after completing it’s second test phase. Don’t know about L band status

teddy

Thanks.

The DDE Tracking Scheduler plugin doesn’t work with a fully updated Windows 10 x64 Pro. It just will not connect to Orbitron or WxTracker. The normal DDE plugin without the scheduler works fine. Sucks not having the scheduler functions though.

sdrhobbist

Can’t seem to make the meteor plugin work in sdrsharp. Using the latest sdrsharp 1707 (does the same in older versions too) and have .net 4.8 installed. ade the “magic line” change in plugins.xml, put the dlls in the right place, yet the meteor plugin doesn’t show up in sdrsharp. When i close sdrsharp, i get the following “unhandled exception” error message.
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at SDRSharp.Meteor.MeteorPlugin.Close()
at SDRSharp.MainForm.MainForm_Closing(Object sender, CancelEventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnClosing(CancelEventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WmClose(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

There is more text here with the Loaded Assemblies, but i don’t want to abuse the messageboard.
With an older version of sdrsharp (1337) an older version of the plugin (QPSK demodulator 1.4) works fine but this one doesn’t know oqpsk so it’s not good for N2-2.
Any help appreciated.

Hi ! I can see that there are also, on the top right of your window, a place for mid and far IR images (at the right of the three visible R,G and B images). Does Meteor M-N2-2 also transmit this kind of images ?
Thanks for your decoder !

Swarl3s

Take a look at the HRPT downlink (L-band). LRPT only provides a limited amount of data-channels
